"Avengers: Age of Ultron" Tears Up the Box Office, Leaves Others in Its Dust
"Avengers: Age of Ultron" landed big at the box office this weekend, earning the biggest opening weekend of the year so far by pulling in a massive estimated $187,656,000. It falls short of the first "Avengers" film from 2012, which made a $207 million dollar its opening weekend; we think Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather might be the ones to thank for this drop off in numbers as many moviegoers opted to stay in this weekend to watch the $100 "Dancing with the Stars" match between the two of them. This second installment in the Avengers series continued to do great numbers overseas as well, bringing its worldwide gross to an estimated $627,000,000, according to Variety. After a month of dominance at the top of the charts,
"Furious 7" has finally dropped into third place, pulling in an additional $6,115,000, bringing its global total gross to a whopping $1,356,739,000. This makes it the 3rd biggest money maker in cinematic history.
"The Age of Adaline," not to be confused with "Age of Ultron," racked up another $6,250,000, finishing at #2 in its second week out. The family films
"Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2" and
"Home" finish off this weekend's top 5.
