It's a good weekend to be a woman at the movies! The female-centered sequel "Pitch Perfect 2" strikes a perfect harmony at the box office, pulling in a huge $70,300,000 its opening weekend. "Pitch Perfect 2" isn't the only film to hit the box office with strong female leads. Charlize Theron's Imperator Furiosa steals the show and leads the post-apocalyptic reboot/sequel hybrid "Mad Max: Fury Road" into second place, drawing in a solid $44,400,000. Despite finishing this week at #3, "Avengers: Age of Ultron" earns another $38,837,000 this weekend, bringing its domestic gross to $372,008,000, passing "Furious 7" for the largest domestic box office this year. "Age of Ultron" also broke the $1 billion dollar mark earlier this week, bringing its global total to $1,142,508,000. "Hot Pursuit" and "Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2" inexplicably continue to earn money and close out the top 5, despite being panned by critics, us included, and audiences alike. Newcomer "Far From the Maddening Crowd" comes in at #10 this weekend.
