It was both a good weekend and a bad weekend for sequels. First, let's talk about the good! "Mission: Impossible - Rouge Nation," the 5th film in the explosive franchise, came in as the clear #1 weekend leader at the box office, pulling in a respectable $56,000,000 in its opening weekend. Now, for the bad news. "Vacation," starring Ed Helms, is the 5th theatrical release in the "National Lampoon" series, but this film failed to meet projections, pulling in $14,850,000 this past weekend, earning a cumulative $21,172,334 since its release this past Tuesday. Marvel's "Ant-Man" dropped from #1 to #3 in its 3rd week in theaters, adding another $12,619,000 to its $132 million plus domestic gross. Even more impressive is the animated "Minions," which came in at #4, bringing in another $12,155,000 in its 4th week out. Its domestic gross is sitting pretty at over $287 million dollars. Closing out the top 5 this weekend is the Adam Sandler-led "Pixels," which brought in another $10,400,000, a 57% drop from its opening last week.
