Labor Day weekend is upon us. The last hurrah for many kids and adults alike as they trudge back to their offices and schools in droves. Though it was what many call the last weekend of summer, not very many people spent it at the movies.
"Straight Outta Compton," which has remained at the #1 position for a month, must now take a backseat to "War Room," the Christian film about having a prayer room, which brought in a little over $9 million this Labor Day weekend at the box offices to claim the #1 spot. "Compton" earned $8,848,840 this weekend, bringing its domestic gross total to an impressive $147,748,545.
"A Walk in the Woods," starring Nick Nolte and Robert Redford, opened as a mid-week new release this past Wednesday before the holiday weekend. The film has mildly good reviews, but brought in $8,168,499 over the weekend, bringing its 5-day gross total to $10,200,499 domestically.
"Mission: Impossible - Rouge Nation" is still going strong, dropping to #4 with a total of $7,150,000 this weekend. Its domestic gross now stands whopping $180,386,692, giving moviegoers a strong chance there will be a sixth "Mission: Impossible" film in the future. Closing out the top 5 was one of the few films to debut this holiday weekend,
"The Transporter Refueled," the reboot to the 2002, Jason Statham-led fan-favorite franchise, which pulled in a measly $7,130,000 and the #5 spot.
