Movie Review: "Red" (2010)

Movie: "Red"
Director: Robert Schwentke
Year: 2010
Rating: PG-13
Running Time: 1 hour, 51 minutes

A retired government assassin named Frank Moses (Bruce Willis) discovers that he, along with the other members of his crew, are being targeted for elimination by the CIA for an unknown reason. After driving to Kansas to meet his call center queen and the woman who he's been flirting with over the phone, Sarah (Mary-Lousie Parker), he drugs her, kidnaps her, and assures her that she will be safe if she comes with him. Frank begins to uncover the secret as to why he, the others in his crew, and his friends Joe (Morgan Freeman) and Marvin (John Malkovich) are being taken down one by one.

For a movie with so many older actors and actresses, "Red" is really fun! It's refreshing to see old actors kicking ass and taking names that AREN'T Sylvester Stallone or Arnold Schwarzenegger. There are tons of laughs throughout this film; Willis does his sarcastic, dead-pan trademark comedy a la "Die Hard," Morgan Freeman is a charmingly sassy fellow...ok, well, he's just being Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich's weird, eccentric genius humor and Helen Mirren's general badassery and dry British whit all add greatly to the plot. It's got tons of action, explosions, and gunfire, yet manages to stay lighthearted and fun for everyone, considering it's a movie about professional killers. Its fast pace keeps viewers enthralled. We really enjoy this movie a lot!

My Rating: 8.5/10

    1. That is SO COOL you were there while they were filming this! I would love to watch a movie being filmed...but I remember the throngs of people who showed up to audition for "Anchorman 2"....I am not a crowds type of gal. ;)
Helen Mirren is my second favorite actress (behind QUEEN MERYL STREEP). :D
