Movie Review: "John Dies at the End" (2012)

Movie: "John Dies at the End"
Director: Don Coscarelli
Year: 2012
Rating: R
Running Time: 1 hour, 39 minutes

Through the use of a new street drug called Soy Sauce, Dave (Chase Williamson) and his friend John (Rob Mayes) have their minds opened to a whole new world of dimensions that allows them to have psychic abilities as well as see creatures that live in our world that no one else can see. They have taken it upon themselves to battle these creatures one by one.

This movie is very random. Since the main characters' experiences are based on taking a drug, the film is shot as one big trip. It's full of dark comedy and also has plenty of gore. Though the narrative doesn't seem to make sense of have any drive, it's not really supposed to. It's almost like a more modern-day "Eraserhead." Overall, it's relatively enjoyable. Aside from Paul Giamatti, pretty much everyone in this is unknown. Not much else to say about this one. It's pretty weird.

My Rating: 5.5/10
BigJ's Rating: 7.5/10
IMDB's Rating: 6.4/10
Rotten Tomatoes Rating: 61%
Do we recommend this movie: BigJ says yes, I say meh.
