When we first saw the trailer for this movie months ago, I called it "The Geriatric Hangover," and that's basically what it was, minus nudity and sex and (illegal) drugs. It is your standard "best friends" comedy with a nice little fish-out-of-water scenario involving elderly gentlemen in the typically younger person location of Las Vegas. It's full of a lot of running gags, mainly about their age. I mean, A LOT of "old people" jokes. That being said, this movie is not terrible. It boasts a substantial cast and they deliver good performances with what they are given. Freeman and De Niro can hardly do wrong, ever. The story is predictable and you can see the end coming from a mile away, but the ride to get there is still pretty enjoyable. The only plot line I had a problem with was Kevin Kline's. I know the mantra is "what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas," but good lord, he was frothing at the mouth the second he stepped out of the car to cheat on his wife. Calm yourself, bro. We had a few laughs, but it's nothing that'd going to make you split your sides. Overall, enjoyable!
Michael Douglas, I know you're reading this, so take my advice: TAKE IT DOWN A NOTCH WITH THE BRAZILIAN BLOW OUTS AND THE CHEAP SELF-TANNER. Jesus christ, buddy, you could basically be called Leatherface. We really, truly hope this was part of the makeup for this movie...
My Rating: 6/10
