A drive-in theater is giving it's final hoorah with a horror movie marathon. The first in the series is "Wadzilla" about a giant killer sperm that terroizes the city of Ney York. The second film in the series is titled "I Was a Teenage Werebear" and is about a sexually confused young man who is seduced by a group of teenage werebears. The third film in the marathon is titled "The Diary of Anne Frankenstein" about Hitler using the journal of Dr. Frankenstein to create a giant monster rabbi. The final short is called "Zom-B-Movie" and has been taking place at the drive in where the marathon is playing. It all started because a drive-in employee had his balls bitten off while trying to have sex with the corpse of his dead wife. He is turned to a zombie and spreads an infection to all the movie patrons by releasing some bodily fluids into the popcorn butter. This turns anyone who ate the popcorn into the walking dead and unleashes a swarm of sex-crazed zombies on the establishment.
We are going to try and tackle these reviews as separately as we can, though there may be some crossover with their general themes.
"Wadzilla" begins at a sperm bank where a man is having trouble donating his, uh, stuff, due to a massively low sperm count, one. He is given pills to help strengthen his one sperm. Unfortunately for him, there is a side effect and these pills not only help strengthen said seed, but they help it grow to an enormous size. This short is full of sexual puns and of course, the giant killer sperm itself. The story is ludicrous at best, though the end is mildly entertaining yet wholly disgusting. Eric Roberts plays a character named General Bukkake...SERIOUSLY??? Talk about excessively crude! It is shot in the style of an old Godzilla film, often employing the use of obvious miniatures and fake film screen backgrounds. If we had to pick the funniest of these mostly unfunny shorts, this would be the "best," but it quickly goes downhill from here.
"I Was a Teenage Werebear" has a main character that is an obvious James Dean parody. This character even delivers the famous line from "Rebel Without a Cause" to erase any doubt otherwise. This short is basically one long stereotypical gay joke as there are many rumors that James Dean himself was homosexual. The "bear" in werebear doesn't refer to the animal, but instead, refers to a term used within the gay community meaning a large hairy gay man. On top of all this, it is a musical in the style of an old 1960's surf film. Again, the music and plot are full of strong sexual references as one person is impaled by a werebear penis during a shower scene and the primary weapon used against them is described as a giant silver dildo. Wow...this review might not even be for the faint of heart.
"The Diary of Anne Frankenstein" is about Hitler and his quest to build a Jewish rabbi Frankenstein though we're not sure what the purpose was since he was Hitler??????? Maybe we missed that in between the gibberish. Speaking of which, the "German" in this short is mostly gibberish which includes the names of Star Wars characters and references, actors names, random objects and foods, as well as lines from "Indiana Jones." Instead of actual German, the actor playing Hitler just uses a angry fake German accent. That is the primary joke that runs through this short. Well, that and the over-the-top nature of Hitler himself and the fact that he's building an un-dead rabbi, which looks cartoonish and almost like Popeye. Hitler also wonders why people, mainly his creature, don't like him. We can't imagine why, #sarcasm. Despite this being the only short in "Chillerama" that doesn't directly deal with sex or sexual situations, there still manages to be a hefty amount of innuendos and cleavage.
"Zom-B-movie" doesn't even start innocently enough, it just goes straight to sex with corpses within the first 30 seconds of the film, when you get past the misogyny. It is much like the rest of the shorts and tries it's best to be as offensive as possible. This starts with the necrophilia and ends with zombie rape and zombie orgies. Wow. Not my kind of film. It is full of some of the most quotable lines in film history, but as the old saying goes, quoting funny movies does not make you funny. In fact, many of the shorts throw out a lot of quotes willy-nilly that try to appeal to the nostalgia of the audience without actually being useful.
Overall, these segments are just too over-the-top and try way too hard to garner laughs they really don't deserve. Though there may be a couple of outrageously hilarious jokes here and there, most of the content in each of these four short vignettes miss the mark and resort to spitting out random movie quotes in an effort to compensate for flat out lazy writing. We're all for raunchy, but not if you're going to be a 12-year old about it.
PS: We are sparing you the write-up about the poop segment. You're welcome, America.
