Most Anticipated Movies of Summer 2017!

The upcoming Memorial Day holiday ushers in the official start of summer! The days get longer and warmer, kids are about to graduate, vacations are soon to commence, and big blockbusters hit the cinema. We thought we would create a list of our most anticipated movies this summer, so here's what we're looking forward to, be they independent or otherwise! These movies are in order of release date for your convenience!

1) "Wonder Woman" (release date: June 2nd, 2017)
Overall, we will admit, we have been disappointed by the DCEU thus far. But, like moths to a flame, we keep fluttering back. Wonder Woman's appearance in "Batman v. Superman" was one of the highlights of that movie, so a full length film featuring that character may be exactly what DC needs to have a winner on its hands. Though we do have a cautious optimism about it, maybe we can be proved wrong.

2) "It Comes At Night" (release date: June 9th, 2017)
Horror movies have had a bit of a resurgence in the past two years, especially independent ones. "It Comes At Night" has certainly piqued our interest. We are huge fans of Joel Edgerton and thoroughly enjoyed his last indie thriller "The Gift."

3) "All Eyez on Me" (release date: June 16th, 2017)
Lolo has been a huge Tupac fanatic since high school, so naturally, a movie based on the life story of the hip hop legend is something we are looking forward to in hopes of it being this year's "Straight Outta Compton."

4) "The Big Sick" (release date: June 23rd, 2017)
We are huge fans of both Kumail Nanjiani and Zoe Kazan, so to see them starring together in a movie makes our little indie loving hearts soar. We laugh so hard every time we see the trailer for this movie, hopefully the rest is just as stellar.

5) "The Beguiled" (release date: June 23rd, 2017)
Sophia Coppola is a talented director and the trailer for this film really gripped us. Maybe she can prove some remakes are worth watching. Plus, the buzz about this movie from Cannes is incredible.

6) "Baby Driver" (release date: June 30th, 2017)
It's hard for us to think of an Edgar Wright film we haven't liked, and with all the buzz surrounding "Baby Driver," we don't expect that to change this summer. With such a stellar cast and a gripping trailer, this is sure to be a winner.

7) "Spider-Man Homecoming" (release date: July 7th, 2017)
We loved Tom Holland's take on Spider-Man in "Captain America: Civil War," however brief it may have been. We really hope he can carry that fun, lighthearted charm through a full length movie and really do justice to a such great character.

8) "War for the Planet of the Apes" (release date: July 14th, 2017)
We loved both "Rise of Planet of the Apes" and "Dawn of Planet of the Apes." Needless to say, we are very much looking forward to where this next installment in the series may go, especially considering its tremendous new cast of characters.

9) "Dunkirk" (release date: July 21st, 2017)
Christopher Nolan is one of our favorite directors and we have at least liked every single one of his movies. This gives us high expectations for "Dunkirk" as we are intrigued to see what Nolan can do in the war genre. Plus, it's always a bonus to see Tom Hardy in anything.

10) "Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets" (release date: July 21st, 2017)
The colorful visuals and imaginative world we have seen in the trailers for "Valerian" really grabbed us. We get strong "The Fifth Element" vibes from this movie and are hopeful Luc Besson can return to the form he had with that film and his earlier work "Leon: The Professional." Please don't be another "Jupiter Ascending."

11) "Atomic Blonde" (release date: July 28th, 2017)
Could we have a female version "John Wick" on our hands? It stars one of our favs, Charlize Theron?! How can this not be a fun, kick ass time?

12) "The Dark Tower" (release date: August 4th, 2017)
A movie starring Idris Elba based on a Stephen King novel? Shut up and take our money!

13) "The Hitman's Bodyguard" (release date: August 18th, 2017)
Samuel L. Jackson needs protecting, and Ryan Reynolds is just the man to do it in "The Hitman's Bodyguard," which could either be tremendously stupid of a complete laugh riot. Either way, we have a feeling these two gentleman will make this comedy be something no one will forget.
14) "Patti Cake$" (release date: August 18th, 2017)
After getting decent reviews at Sundance, "Patti Cake$" got all the more intriguing to us. A plus sized underdog with a not so great life who takes her everyday happenings and turns them into raps? It sounds unorthodox and we love everything about the premise.
